Cardiff March To A Different Beat

While Alan Solomons took his Ulster squad to South Africa for pre-season training, the Cardiff Blues took themselves to the British Army training base at Aldershot.

Cardiff Blues returned from “boot camp” last Friday with coach Dai Young declaring the Aldershot venture a resounding success. “We got away, there were no distractions and we achieved the main objective of
gelling together on and off the field,” said the former Wales and Lions prop.

“While rugby was the main theme during the trip, on Wednesday the boys did things like a mini gun run and trailer pulling – exercises that greatly helped team building and togetherness.

“We chose Aldershot for a number of reasons. It was not far to travel and we
knew we could call on their great facilities if the weather was bad. In the event we didn’t need to go indoors at all.

“We have still got a bit to do but we have two friendly matches still to come and I am sure we will be right for our trip to Glasgow Rugby on Friday, 5th September.”
