Williams Takes The High Road

Matt Williams will leave his post as Director of Rugby with the Leinster Lions to take up the position as coach to the Scottish national side. Williams will be officially unveiled as the Scotland coach later today in South Africa where the Scots are presently on tour. He will take over the coaching duties from Ian McGeechan at the end of the World Cup but will doubtless be involved with the squad during that competition.

Willie Anderson will take over as caretaker coach until a successor to Williams has been appointed.

Speaking about the departure of Williams, Leinster CEO Mick Dawson said, “Leinster are disappointed to lose the services of Matt Williams, yet we do understand the attraction of moving to an international position. Matt has done well here in Leinster and we had a good working relationship.”

Leinster are expected to begin the search for a new Director of Rugby straight away.
