Ireland Under 19s got their FIRA World Championship campaign off to the best possible start with a 33-7 win over Italy in Paris. They now now face the title holders, New Zealand – who defeated Namibia 57-11 – on Sunday in Villejuif.
It was a morale boosting win for the Irish who had been beaten by the Italians at this stage of the competition last year.

In other games played, England beat Russia 30-7 and now play South Africa, comfortable 50 point winners over Korea while Scotland accounted for Romania, 38-6 and will face Argentina on Sunday.
