Irish Referee Appointments

The high standing that IRFU officials enjoy in world rugby is reflected in the appointment of four of our top referees to officiate at the summer internationals and later on at RWC 2003.

Irish referees have received major appointments for the summer internationals which reflect the very high standing of I.R.F.U. officials in world rugby. In addition four referees – Donal Courtney, Alan Lewis, David McHugh, Alain Rolland – have been named in the provisional list of 26 for the Rugby World Cup in Australia later this year.

Irish Referee’s Schedule.

June 21 Australia v England – Dave McHugh.

June 21 New Zealand v Wales – Alan Lewis.


July 11
Namibia v Monu Samoa – Alain Rolland.

July 19 South Africa v New Zealand – Alain Rolland.

Aug 23 Scotland v Italy – Donal Courtney.

Simon McDowell will touch judge in the South Africa v Scotland, and France v England matches.

Former International referee Stephen Hilditch has been appointed as one of eight assessors to the Rugby World Cup in Australia.

In addition, Tom Aplin and Jim Irvine are appointed to assess major Tests in South Africa and New Zealand during the summer programme of matches.
