Super 12 Star Returns Positive Drug Test.

Promising South African fly half Hercules ‘Herkie’ Kruger has been suspended from all rugby with immediate effect after testing positive to the anabolic steroid nandrolone.

Promising South African fly half Hercules ‘Herkie’ Kruger has been suspended from all rugby with immediate effect after testing positive to the anabolic steroid nandrolone.
The South African Rugby Football Union (SARFU) confirmed on Thursday that Kruger had returned a positive A sample. Kruger has requested his B sample be tested; if it comes back positive a tribunal will be assembled by SARFU to hear the case which could see Kruger banned from all rugby for up to two years.
“We are concerned that he has tested positive and we have informed the player, his union and the IRB (International Rugby Board),” said a SARFU spokesman on Thursday.
Nineteen Sharks players were tested in Durban on 24 January during the Super 12 franchise’s pre-season training.
“They were randomly chosen and Herkie Kruger’s urine sample returned positive for the anabolic steroid Nandrolone,” said Sharks CEO Brian Van Zyl. “He’s been immediately suspended and will not play any rugby until the matter has been settled. “It is our view that the substance was taken inadvertently and we await the results with interest.”
Kruger has ten Super 12 caps for the Sharks and has scored over 150 points for his Currie Cup side, Natal Sharks. His immediate suspension makes Kruger unavailable for the Sharks round one Super 12 clash against the Stormers in Cape Town on Friday evening (SA time).
