Connacht came into the game trailing by five points and in atrocious conditions never really managed to impose themselves against a strong home outfit. They trailed 9-3 at the break, Eric Elwood, kicking their penalty, and they went further behind to a Jenkins penalty in the 50th minute.
Elwood replied with his second penalty moments later and a third from the veteran out-half on the hour kept the home side under pressure, but they had enough in the tank to cope with the late Connacht surge.
