Title holders Leinstercompleted their Celtic League campaign with an impressive and emphatic 39-18 victory over Bridgend at the Brewery Fields today. Three defeats earlier in the pool stages had ended Leinster’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.

Bridgend, also out of contention for the knockout stages led 15-10 at the interval with two tries from Dafydd James. But Leinster upped the tempo in the second half scoring 29 points with Denis Hickie scoring two tries and Brian O’Driscoll and Malcolm O’Kelly one apiece.

Newport achieved their first victory of the season at the ninth attempt with a 24-9 triumph over Borders and Swansea defeated Ebbw Vale.
