RWC 2007

A decision about where the 2007 Rugby World Cup will be staged will not be known until April of next year following bid presentations made in Dublin last Friday.

Following bid presentations made in Dublin last Friday by the Rugby Football Union and the Fidiration Frangaise de Rugby, to host Rugby World Cup 2007, the Directors of RWC have requested that both Unions provide more detailed information.

To assist in this process an IRB Management team will be meeting with the Unions in the coming weeks. Completed proposals will then be considered by the RWC Directors whose recommendations will be put before the IRB Council in April.

RWCL has made it clear that all negotiations, terms and conditions, relating to the Host Union Agreement should be concluded and that the Agreement should be signed by the bidding Unions before a recommendation is made to the Council.
Alternative options proposed by England were not considered by RWCL. It was agreed that as these proposals materially altered the entire structure of RWC, they would require to be considered at the IRB Council meeting in November.
