Leinster Lions roar again

Newport bowed to a superior side, throwing Leinster a life line in their Celtic League Campaign

The Leinster Lions are back on form with a convincing win over Newport, winning on a margin of 42 – 1. Brian O Meara hit the posts after two minutes but it was Jason Strange who opened the scoring for Newport from a penalty. O Meara soon replied minutes later and added another to his tally bringing the score to 9-3. He notched up another three points before Jason Strange brought Newport to 6 points making it 12-6. After another penalty by O Meara, the half time score was Leinster 15, Newport 6.

Leinster started the second half strongly with Brian O Meara scoring another penalty. Just over a minute later, Jason Strange put over another penalty to make it 18-9. Leinster rallied with Shane Horgan going over the line to score the first try of the game. O Meara converted leaving it Leinster 25, Newport 9.

Hickey went over after 20 minutes followed by Malcom O Kelly shortly after, making it 35 -9 in Leinster’s favour. Brian O Driscoll passed to Leo Cullen after 33 minutes who went over for another score. O Meara converted and it looked as if the game was over. Newport made a final effort with a consolation try by Paul Young two minutes before the end. The match ended 42 – 14.
