Ireland Comfortably In Front at Half-Time.

28/09/2002. Tries from Denis Hickie, Kevin Maggs, Brian O’Driscoll (2), and Girvan Dempsey helped Ireland to a 42-0 interval lead

Folowing a nice break by Brian O’Driscoll, carried on by Kevin Maggs, Ireland opened with a try within two minutes from Denis Hickie and that was converted by Ronan O’Gara who landed two further penalties to leave the Irish 13 points clear with eleven minutes gone. Maggs scored his try in the 14th minute, O’Gara again converting and try number three arrived after O’Driscoll blocked down an attempted clearance and he scored his second and Ireland’s fourth in the 32nd minute.
In injury-time, Ireland opted for a scrum when awarded a penalty and that resulted in a try for Girvan Dempsey.
