Two tries from Girvan Dempsey, the second converted by Ronan O’Gara who also landed two penalties left Ireland leading 18-0 against Russia in Krasnoyarsk at half-time.

Dempsey’s first try came after just two and a half minutes of play and although O’Gara missed the conversion, he made amends with two penalties in the space of sixty second to push Ireland 11 points clear.
Then, in the 29th minute, a nice piece of play from Brian O’Driscoll and Keith Gleeson, ended with Dempsey arriving outside John Kelly to score on the right with O’Gara adding the points.

Half-time Russia 0-18 Ireland.
