RTI and IRFU Announce Deal on TV Coverage

RTI and the IRFU have announced details of an agreement which will see comprehensive coverage of Irish international and domestic rugby on the national broadcaster over the next three years.

The deal between the IRFU and RTE means that the Six Nations Championship will be screened by RTI as in previous seasons, along with the autumn internationals and the domestic rugby season.

A statement issued today by RTE read.
This is great news for RTI viewers as Six Nations matches taking place at Twickenham will now be back in their itinerary.

The Six Nations package comprises 15 live matches each year, in addition to the other internationals and matches in the domestic game. There will also be an extensive new magazine programme. The first of this year’s four autumn internationals is on 7th September, when Ireland take on
Romania in Thomond Park.

Niall Cogley, RTI Head of Sport, said:
“We’re delighted to announce this deal with the IRFU which will ensure Irish viewers are able to see the most
comprehensive coverage of Irish rugby possible. I look forward to a continued fruitful and mutually beneficial partnership with the IRFU over the next three years and beyond.”

Philip Browne, Chief Executive, Irish Rugby Football Union, said:
“The IRFU is pleased that agreement has been reached with RTI for the next three years. The addition of a 13-part magazine package, which will include
highlights of the domestic scene, is an exciting added dimension as it enables the promotion of rugby in Ireland at all levels.”
