McGeechan Coaching Seminar in Trinity

The former Lions coach, Ian McGeechan will be coming to Dublin on August 10th to be the featured coach in the first Rugby coaching seminar to be held at Trinity College Dublin.

McGeechan, the Scotland coach is excited at the prospect of sharing his vast rugby knowledge with Irish coaches and Rugby enthusiasts. The morning will consist of three one hour presentations from Ian, including his modern day philosophy starting with the victorious Lions tour to South Africa in 1997 where Ian will introduce previously unseen video of the Lions training methods on that tour. He will also present a twelve minute motivation’ video that he showed the team before the first test – McGeechan has one of only two copies that exist of the video.
He will demonstrate how his philosophy and planning has evolved over the years, and enunciate his views about the modern day game and where technically and tactically he sees the game going.

In the afternoon he will display his training methods in what he calls his core team skills where he will conduct a training session at College Park with local players.

In the late afternoon he will conduct an interactive session where he will discuss with local coaches the game in depth encouraging healthy debate and answering questions on all aspects of the game. The day will end with a happy hour in the pavilion.

Trinity director of rugby Tony Smeeth is excited at the prospect of the leading northern hemisphere coach coming to Dublin University.
Trinity is the ideal place to conduct a seminar of this sort. he said. Adding, that to his knowledge this is the first seminar of this type in Irish rugby. if it goes well we will make it an annual event.

This is the first time McGeechan has shared his knowledge in this fashion. He is the consummate professional coach and he has prepared thoroughly for the day. Coaches from other codes maybe interested in how he plans, cross fraternization is healthy for all sports.” Smeeth added.

There are still places for the seminar available. The cost of the seminar is 250. The cost includes morning coffee, lunch and an evening happy hour’ in the pavilion at Trinity College.
