So What’s Happening Around Timaru.

What goes on out in new Zealand is not much different than home

A Timaru student, obviously totally fed up with bullies who had targeted his younger brother, decided to sort it’. He took himself to the school late at night armed with a baseball bat. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) there was no-one there and all he ended up with was a fine and 80 hours community service.

In Temuka a pair of hardy lads were arrested for joy riding. Joy riding with a difference. You see, the lads whipped a tractor. A tractor with a front-loader and headed off on their merry way causing over NZ$6,000 worth of damage.

And then there was the poor unfortunate who was jailed for falsifying details on a resume that helped him land a job at the new Maori television channel. It seems the judge took exception to his fabricating a CV that earned him the high profile, high paying position. And when the defendant claimed to have no home in which to serve home detention or even no base for periodic detention, then the judge found a place for him – Jail.

And guess what? It seems that while he was in the job as Head of Maori Television, he was doing a good job.

And what do know but aren’t the teachers out here up in arms over the latest pay offer and further strikes are expected. Teachers in one College wore black T-shirts carrying the word ‘Slave’. There is no truth in the rumour that the students wore T-shirts carrying the word ‘Goody’.

Ah sure, it could only happen in New Zealand.
