Callard And Evans Go For Munster

Heineken Cup winners Ieuan Evans and Johnathan Callard both plumped for Munster to beat the reigning
European champions Leicester in today’s Heineken Cup final in Cardiff’s Millennioum Stadium.

“My memories of winning the trophy are lost a little in the mists of time, but it is a wonderful achievement for any club,” said Evans, who won the tournament alongside Callard at Bath in 1996.

“In the end we beat the better side on the day, but that’s what club rugby is all about. This year’s final has all the potential to be really close. It’s been a long, long season for both teams, but Llanelli showed Munster the way
in their epic encounter with the Tigers in the semi-final.”

“If the Irish can put Leicester’s back three under pressure and move the ball around there is no reason why they can’t come out on top.”

Callard reckons the match is almost too close to call, but he has also gone for the Irish provincial side to beat England’s premiership title holders.

“You can’t right off a team like Leicester they just have to get up for one more game this season to do the double and become the first team to defend a Heineken Cup title,” said Callard.

“But there is something about Munster that tells me they are going to do it. They have a lot of passion on their side and I’ve got a feeling it may just be their year”.

“Whatever happens it will be a terrific spectacle as all these finals are and I am looking forward to the atmosphere in this magnificent Stadium.”
