Horgan Out of Munster Side

24/05/02. A freak training ground accident has ruled Anthony Horgan out of the Munster side for Saturday’s Heineken Cup final clash with Leicester in Cardiff.

Horgan who was well on the road to recovery from a shoulder injury sustained in the game against Ulster three weeks ago, broke two bones in his right hand as the side warmed up prior to the afternoon training session at the squad’s camp at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel in Hensol Park, Pontyclun.

At first it seemed the injury was none too serious but on the advice of team doctor Len Harty, Horgan was taken to a nearby hospital for an x-ray which subsequently revealed the seriousness of the injury.

Horgan not only misses the final on Saturday but is now also ruled out of Ireland’s tour to New Zealand, a trip which surely would have yielded him his first senior international cap. From a Munster viewpoint however, there is no need to draft in a replacement as they had already included John O’Neill in their 24 strong squad.

Munster will name their side tomorrow at a 1pm press conference at the Millennium Stadium.
