Mel Deane Called Into Irish Tour Squad

22/05/02. Mel Deane (Sale) has been called into the Ireland squad to tour New Zealand as a replacement for Shane Horgan (Leinster) who was withdrawn because of an ankle injury.

Jason Holland (Munster) was not considered because he is getting married on the 8th of June. Holland will remain on stand-by for the tour, as he will be in New Zealand after his wedding.

Ireland play their first game of the three-match tour against a New Zealand Divisional XV in Timaru on June 8th. They then play two tests against the All Blacks in Dunedin on June 15th and Auckland on June 22th.
