Heineken Cup Final Sold Out.

16/05/02.The Heineken Cup 2002 final is a 74,000 sell-out – topping the crowd who were at the Millennium Stadium on 4 May to see Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup final.

The clash between defending Heineken Cup champions Leicester Tigers and Munster will set a Heineken Cup record – topping the 68,441 who were at Twickenham two years ago – while also attracting a record influx of rugby supporters from outside Wales for any match staged at the Millennium Stadium.

“The phenomenal interest in the Heineken Cup final is such that we could have sold thousands of additional tickets – especially in Ireland – as was also the case for the Leicester semi-final against Llanelli in Nottingham last month,” said Derek McGrath, ERC Chief Executive.

“We are committed to growing the final of the Heineken Cup to becoming a major European event and the decision that was taken in September to announce the final venue in advance of the begining of the tournament confirms we are on the right road. We are delighted to have two of the best supported teams in Europe in the final and, added to the successful promotion of the event since January, we are delighted there will be a packed house on the 25th.”

In addition to the 43,000 tickets sold equally through Leicester and Munster, 26,000 tickets were sold by the semi-finals. The tournament broadcast partners and media account for 1,000 tickets. ERC, its tournament partners (Heineken, Orange, Parker Pen, Peugeot and Norton Rose) and official hospitality account for the remaining 4,000.”
