Life Ban for Fifteen Year Old

A fifteen year old youth who ran onto the field to tackle Brumbies and Wallaby captain George Gregan at the weekend has been banned from all future events at the Rotorua International Stadium.

The incident happened during the Super 12 match between the Brumbies and the Chiefs with the youth coming out of the stands to tackle the Australian star.
It is believed that the action was prompted when the Rotorua youth, was dared by friends to run on to the field for a bet of NZ$200.The incident took place during an injury break in the second half of the game, won 42-15 by the Brumbies, when the youth ran onto the field, avoiding security, and tackled Gregan.

The life ban, imposed on the boy by the Chiefs and Event Venues Rotorua, comes amidst renewed calls from Australian officials that they would be seeking “assurances” from the New Zealand Rugby Football Union that the safety of Australian players can be guaranteed at New Zealand venues.
