Guinness Interprovincial – Final Matches

07/05/02.The final games in this season’s Guinness Interprovincial Championship take place this week starting with the Connacht v Leinster game in Galway on Wednesday (6.30)

Victory in that game for Matt Williams’ side will virtually guarantee them the championship trophy, a piece of silverware that has rested in the Munster trophy cabinet for the past three years. They lead the League table by a single point ahead of Munster who would then have to go to Ravenhill on Friday and defeat the home side comprehensively and score four points in the process. Adding the domestic title to their Celtic League victory would constitute a more than satisfactory conclusion to Leinster’s year an set them up nicely for what should be a very serious assault on next year’s Heineken Cup.

The Interprovincial games this week also afford the players the opportunity to impress the national selectors ahead of the announcement of the panel to travel to New Zealand at the beginning of June.
