Irishman Courtney Joins IRB Rugby Referees Panel

24/04/02.Donal Courtney has been included in the International Rugby Board referee panel for the first time, and will take charge of two of the upcoming Rugby World Cup games next September.

Courtney (37) from Dublin, joins Alan Lewis, David McHugh and Alain Rolland in a busy, far-flung summer schedule.

He has been awarded two Rugby World Cup qualifying games in September as referee and a number of other matches as a touch judge.

Lewis, McHugh and Rolland will be involved in top line matches in South Africa, Canada and Argentina.
The May – September 2002 referees/touch judges allocation for the Irish Panel Members is:


June 8, South AFrica V. Wales, Bloemfontein (Alan Lewis, touch judge).

June 15 – South Africa V. Wales, Cape Town (Alan Lewis, touch judge).

June 15 – Argentina V. France, Buenos Aires (Alain Rolland, touch judge).

June 15 – Canada V. Scotland, Vancouver (David McHugh, referee).

June 22 – Argentina V. England, Buenos Aires (Alain Rolland, referee).

June 22 – USA V. Scotland, venue tba (David McHugh, touch judge).

June 29 – RWC – USA V. Canada, venue tba (Alan Lewis, referee; Donal
Courtney, touch judge).

July (date to be confirmed) – Canada V. USA, venue tba – (Alan Lewis, touch
judge; Donal Courtney touch judge).

September 7 – RWC Uruguay V. Winner Round 3, venue tba – (Donal Courtney, referee).

September 21 – RWC Italy V. tbc – venue tba (Donal Courtney referee).
