Shannon defeated Ulster champions Ballynahinch 22-14. They led 10-6 at half time after John Hodnett scored their opening try which David Delaney converted, Delaney also tagged on a penalty. In the second half they had further tries from Les Hogan and Damien O’Connell.

In the Galway Sportsground yesterday, Old Belvedere defeated Galwegians 24-12.
