Another Bite of the Cherry for Richmond

08/04/02. Richmond pulled off a crucial 16-6 home victory over Bangor to give themselves another chance of staying in Division Four of the AIB League.

At the same time, defeat for the northern side means they will be relegated to the Junior scene for next season. Richmond now find themselves pitched into a play-off situation with the winner of the round robin series which involves Kilkenny, Queens, Westport and Highfield. The winner of that series gains automatic promotion while the runner up will play off against Richmond.
Last year Highfield were the side involved in that particular scenario. They were beaten by Connemara who replaced them in AIB League Four.

In the other outstanding game of the league section, in division four, Ballina turned in a five star – seven try – performance to defeat Instonians 53-30 in a spectacular game at Heffernan Park.
