Perugini Banned for 20 Weeks

28/03/02. Italian prop Salvatore Perugini, yellow carded in Lansdowne Road last Saturday for an incident involving Irish scrum-half, Peter Stringer, has been handed a 20 week suspension.

A Disciplinary Committee comprising Professor Lorne Crerar (Chairman, Scotland), Paul Mauriac (France) and Geraint Edwards (Wales) met yesterday to consider the citing of the Italian prop forward Salvatore Perugini following the Lloyds TSB Six Nations match between Ireland and Italy in Dublin on Saturday, 23 March.

The Committee considered the video evidence of the incident, the referee’s and touch judges’ reports, and listened to the player’s account as to the circumstances.

The Committee upheld the citing complaint, judging that the player had struck an opponent with his head and imposed a 20 suspension in line with IRB guidelines.
