AIB League

16/03/02.An action packed weekend of rugby with the second last series of matches in the AIB League plus the Schools Senior Cup deciders in three Provinces.

The AIB League programme throws up some fascinating encounters, no more so than the meeting in Division One of Cork Constitution and Terenure College in Temple Hill or relegation threatened Co Carlow against play off chasing UCD at Belfield.

In Division Two, second placed UL Bohemians are in Rosbrien to take on third placed Old Crescent with Barnhall travelling to Towns Park in Midleton hoping to topple the home side and set up a possible play-off decider against Crescent in Parsonstown in a fortnights time.

Dublin University and Greystones might just secure their Division Two places after todays action. The students travel to Bangor while Greystones are home to bottom placed Richmond for a game that offers the possibility of a bonus point. Third placed Old Wesley travel north to Banbridge.

In Division One Shannon can makes sure of a home semi-final with a win over Buccaneers at Thomond Park. It’s a victory they’ll have to work hard for against a Buccs side who are not entirely safe from the trapdoor.

A win for Cork Con could end Terenure’s hopes of a place in the play-offs while Garryowen must take something out of Eaton Park if they are to progress.

Clontarf, St Mary’s, UCD and Blackrock can all still make the semi-finals. Clontarf look to be in pole position. They are home today to Young Munster and a bonus point beckons. Mary’s and UCD face tricky games against relegation candidates DLSP and Co Carlow while Blackrock face a difficult trip away to Galwegians.
