Maggs Out for Rest of Season

11/03/02.Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan must plan for the remainder of the Six Nations campaign without Kevin Maggs. The centre broke his arm in the course of Bath’s 27-9 defeat by Leicester

Maggs left the Recreation Ground pitch soon after half time and Bath’s new Director of Rugby, former Australian international Michael Foley confirmed that Maggs had suffered a displace fracture in his forearm and could be out of action for eight weeks.

Mel Deane, the ex-Connacht centre now with Sale, and Justin Bishop of London Irish, have been called in for the four day training session in Belfast this week in light of the injury crisis. Maggs is almost certainly out for the remainder of the Six Nations championship after sustaining a broken arm and Rob Henderson is not expected to be fully fit again in time for Saturday week’s match at home to Italy.
Meanwhile the Ireland squad have assembled in Belfast for a four day training session which begins today. Their session tomorrow afternoon (3pm) in Ravenhill will be open to the public.
