Shannon Stay Top

09/03/02.Shannon maintained their position at the head of affairs in AIB League Division One with a well deserved 22-15 win over arch rivals Garryowen in Dooradoyle

Shannon came from behind to snatch the spoils after they had led 13-12 at half time. They scored the only try of the game mid way through the opening half when a neat piece of work from Andrew Thompson sent Tommy Cregan in to the right of the posts.

And it was Cregan who sealed victory for Shannon. They trailed 15-13 after 58 minutes when Jeremy Staunton (pictured) knocked over his fifth penalty. That score co-incided with the harsh yellow carding of Alan Quinlan that saw Shannon reduced to 14.

However they showed plenty of resilience to dominate the closing stages and Cregan landed three penalties in the final quarter to seal victory.
