Hosie Calls meeting of Disciplinary Officers

08/03/02.Chairman of the Six 6 Nations Committee, Allan Hosie, will host a Disciplinary Officers meeting to discuss the harmonisation of disciplinary procedures.

The meeting, which will take place next Wednesday, 13 March, in Dublin, has been convened in response to growing concerns about inconsistencies in the interpretation and implementation of disciplinary procedures across Europe.

Mr Hosie said: “I have no wish to pre-judge what may emerge from this meeting. However, it is clear that most people now recognise the need for greater harmony.

“Anyone with responsibility for maintaining standards of discipline and behaviour in rugby knows that Laws must be clear and unambiguous and that they must be applied consistently and equitably.”

“This is too serious and too important a subject for there to be any doubt. We must send out the message that rugby is determined to eradicate violence and bad behaviour – wherever it occurs.”

The need for the ‘greater harmony’ Hosie refers to arises from the respective discilpinary treatment meted out by international coaches Bernard Laporte and Clive Woodward (pictured). Laporte dropped David Auradou for being yellow carded while Woodward was content to stand by his captain following his yellow card for punching Robbie Russell
