Exactly when the outstanding Guinness interprovincials games will be played may be known sometime next week. Dates have been suggested by the IRFU for consideration by the Branches.
06/03/02.It is thought likely that the weekend prior to the European Cup semi-final is one possible date for matches in the Guinness interprovincial championship with the final series perhaps on May 18th – a week prior to the European Cup final. The system of playing championship matches on a home and away basis has been scrapped for this season.
The IRFU has suggested these dates to the respective Branches and is awaiting their response. Obviously Munster will be looking at the dates with an eye to the European Cup and the best possible preparation for their semi-final joust with Beziers on April 27th. They are scheduled to play Ulster and Leinster in the interprovincial.
