City of Derry’s appeal against the sanction imposed for use of an illegal player has been turned down. A statement issued by John Redmond (Slattery PR) on behalf of the IRFU, read: ” The IRFU Appeals Committee met on January 16th to hear the appeal of Derry against the decision of the AIB League Sub Committee to deduct eight points and to fine the club #4,000.

Its decision was to deny the appeal and confirm the eights points deduction and fine of 5,000 euro, 1,250 euro to be paid immediately and the remainder suspended until the end of the season 2002-2003 when it will be revoked if the Club incurs no further breaches of the League Regulations.
