The IRFU (Ulster Branch) have appointed David Boyd as the Club Rugby Development Manager. Boyd, who previously worked in insurance, will provide a planning function for the development of club rugby across the board and will be based full time at the Ulster Branch in Ravenhill.

The new role is unique for rugby in both Ulster and Ireland. The position
evolved from last season’s comprehensive ‘Review of Club Rugby’ conducted by the Ulster Branch Task Force, which involved consultation withal the clubs all across the province.

Boyd will be involved in managing and delivering areas contained within the Ulster Branch’s Strategic Plan, as well as complimenting the existing work of the clubs in raising the profile of the club game.

A former player of YMCA and CIYMS, Boyd has been largely involved with Ballyclare RFC where he served as Director of Rugby and Youth Convenor for
many years. At present, Boyd is Team Manager to the Ulster Youth XV, who are currently competing in the Under-18 Interprovincial Championship. Boyd is in the middle of his second season with the side.

Reflecting on his appointment, Boyd commented, “I am very excited and
enthused about my new role, and looking forward to making contact with all the clubs, and assisting them where possible with their development.”
