WHAT IS CADBURY BOOST TOUCH?
Cadbury Boost Touch is a minimal contact form of rugby played by male, female and mixed teams. The minimum contact form of "Touch" entails a player coming into contact with the opposition player. This allows Men and Women of all ages to participate at a level suitable to their ability and experience, from Higher Grade through to Beginners.
Each team has six 'Touches' (a touch is initiated by contact with any part of the body) to score. If there is no score, possession is then handed over to the opposition team who will then in turn play a 'set-of-six' and so on.
Tries are scored the very same way as in regular rugby ie. touching down the ball with full control on or over the try line. Also as with regular rugby, the normal laws for a pass having to be behind or lateral all apply.
HOW MANY ON A TOUCH TEAM?
The recommended squad size for a Cadbury Boost Touch team is 12 players. During a game, each team must have no more than six players on the field of play at any one time. Of the six players onfield in a mixed game, THREE must be female.
I'VE NEVER PLAYED ANY RUGBY BEFORE. CAN I STILL PLAY?
Of course you can! There is minimal CONTACT in Cadbury Boost Touch. It is easy to pick up as well as great fun. Most venues will hold Open Nights before the regular season starts. This is an ideal opportunity for all players to familiarise themselves with not only the game of Touch Rugby, but the Host Venue and other teams. Leagues at our venues are graded according to ability.
WHEN DOES REGISTRATION TAKE PLACE and WHERE?
Registration is currently online here at www.irishrugby.ie/touch.
Competition for places will be extremely busy, so make sure you guarantee your team's place by registering as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
For around 4 Euro-a-Week per-player, you can be part of this Summer's leagues!
WHAT DO I NEED IN ORDER TO PLAY?
A lot of teams choose to go the whole hog and order a team kit to be manufactured. This can really add that special zip to your team's evening out on the pitch. All sorts of price ranges and manufacturers for this team wear have been used by teams around the country. See our Gallery section on this website for some examples of the various kinds of shirt player would wear.
TELL ME ABOUT A TYPICAL TOUCH SEASON?
A typical touch rugby summer league takes place during the summer months. A league usually comprises of a minimum 6 teams.
This means that a regular season consists of 5 weeks of group/league games, followed by one week of Finals playoffs. Every team has something to play for at the end of it all so six weeks are guaranteed for everyone.
On any given match night during the season, your team will play one match. The match will be 40 minutes in length, broken into two halves of 20 minutes. Typical time slots for games in a night are 7pm for the first, 7.45pm for the second and 8.30pm for the last.
The pitch that a game takes place upon is played across half a normal rugby pitch from sideline to sideline. There are no posts so no conversion or penalty kicks.
WHERE CAN I VIEW THE LAWS OF THE GAME?
A downloadable version of the Laws of the Game is available on the Touch section of the website. Should there be any changes to these laws, notice will be sent to all mailing list members and relevant. Click Here to bring you to that page
