Of all the rugby capitals of Europe, perhaps Rome displays its charms most overtly. Here the Colosseum, there St Peter's and the Vatican. In fact, if there was one RBS Six Nations trip that even the most ardent non-rugby follower wouldn't mind going on, Rome would be the destination. The centre of the ancient world, Rome's history is as colourful as the Six Nations parties that descend on it every spring.
Legend has it that the city was founded by Romulus and Remus, the offspring of Mars and a vestal virgin. The brothers were abandoned and raised by a she-wolf. More legendary was the Empire centred on Rome that extended across Europe and the near-East. With the conversion of the Emperor Constantine to Christianity the city also became the centre of the world's dominant religion.
Rome lost much of its power in the Middle Ages but with the return of the Popes from exile the Renaissance took over and the city became home to the work of Raphael, Bernini and Michelangelo, amongst many others. Napoleon did not destroy the city in the late 18th century, nor did the Second World War and Rome remains to transfix all who visit it.

Previewing Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash with France, Ireland prop Tom Court said: "The intensity was up today. We're back in the right frame of mind and really looking to make up for last weekend. We've got the game-plan and structures set, it's just really about execution and intensity."
Looking forward to tackling les Bleus at the Stade de France, Ireland full-back Rob Kearney said: "To be fair to the backs, it wasn't our attacking play that let us down against Wales. If we can bring that level of attack by maybe adding another 5% on top of it then we'll ask a lot of questions of the French defence."
Commenting on Saturday's Championship showdown with France, Ireland prop Mike Ross said: "We want to put right a lot of the things that went wrong last Sunday. We really need to step up and start delivering. France are always strong at home and we're expecting a tough battle up front."
Ireland team manager Michael Kearney issues an update regarding the squad to face France, the return of Keith Earls to training and Stephen Ferris' citing from the Wales match. Mark Tainton and Sean Cronin also answer questions from the media.
The IRFU are happy to announce that it has secured the signatures of Ireland internationals Keith Earls and Denis Leamy. Their new contracts will see them remain with Munster for a further two years until 2014.
