IRFU Club Sevens will be refereed by top National Panel referees and also development referees with potential for the National Panel all appointed by the union.
The IRFU has a proud record of involvement of officials in sevens rugby. The union's Director of Referees, Owen Doyle and Referee Development & Coaching Officer David McHugh have both refereed this shortened version of rugby as have international referees, Alain Rolland (who has also represented Ireland as a sevens player), Alan Lewis, George Clancy and Peter Fitzgibbon.
The IRB Sevens World Cup in Dubai saw international assistant referee, Simon McDowell, IRFU Referee Development Officer, David Keane and Ireland's first female international referee, Aoife McCarthy officiate throughout.
There will be five workshops around Ireland presented by International Sevens referee, David Keane in the lead-up to the provincial events. Dates for these will be announced shortly on this website.
Equally as important, Coaches are also invited to attend these workshops in order to familiarise themselves with the key areas of officiating and playing of rugby sevens.
