Top referee Nigel Owens from Wales has been appointed to take charge of this year's RaboDirect PRO12 final between Leinster and Glasgow Warriors. It will be his 111th league game and second final following the 2011 decider (Munster v Ospreys).
Nigel Owens has plenty of big match experience having taken charge of three Heineken Cup and two Amlin Challenge Cup finals in the past, along with 13 Six Nations matches and eight Tri Nations (Rugby Championship) games as well as being named in the IRB panel for two Rugby World Cups (2007 and 2011).
The match officials appointed for the RaboDirect PRO12 final between Leinster and Glasgow Warriors at the RDS on Saturday, May 31 (kick-off 6.15pm) are as follows:
Referee: Nigel Owens (Wales)
Assistant Referees: Leighton Hodges, Ian Davies (both Wales)
Television Match Official: Derek Bevan (Wales)
Citing Commissioner: Maurizio Vancini (Italy)
As the international period draws to a close, Ireland are the only PRO12 Union to record three straight wins during the autumn. Victory over Australia combined with their earlier win over South Africa maintained their third place position in the World Rugby Rankings.
Speaking after Munster's comprehensive 38-12 victory away to the Newport Gwent Dragons, and while reflecting on the bonus point win that now places his team third in the GUINNESS PRO12, head coach Anthony Foley made particular reference to a couple players.
