Research has found that participating in sports can have a healthy developmental impact on young children. These activities can promote co-operative play, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Play Rugby provides you with session plans, video clips on how to play fun games, additional Play Rugby certificates for all the class and the full range of Game Cards.

Play Rugby Girls contains additional information for schools and clubs who would like to set up a Girls Rugby programme.

You will also find links to our Mini Rugby programme and the IRFU Child Welfare policy which informs all of our age grade rugby initiatives.

  • Divide players into two teams
  • Make a grid 15m x 15m (numbers and space will decide the size)
  • Put each team at opposite ends of the grid
  • Nominate one team to be the attack (Blue Team) and one team to be the defence (Yellow Team)
  • The coach calls the number of players from each team that are to enter into the grid e.g. two attackers and one defender
  • These players play a mini game of touch rugby between them, when a player is touched they must pass the ball to another player
  • The mini game ends when there is a score or a number of touches by the defence
  • The attacking team score by running over the try line
