Research has found that participating in sports can have a healthy developmental impact on young children. These activities can promote co-operative play, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Play Rugby provides you with session plans, video clips on how to play fun games, additional Play Rugby certificates for all the class and the full range of Game Cards.

Play Rugby Girls contains additional information for schools and clubs who would like to set up a Girls Rugby programme.

You will also find links to our Mini Rugby programme and the IRFU Child Welfare policy which informs all of our age grade rugby initiatives.

Gates

  • Set out a 30m x 30m pitch ( size will depend on numbers and space)
  • Randomly place some gates around the pitch i.e. 2 cones with a space between them
  • The team with the ball score by running through the gates with the ball
  • Restrict the amount of steps that the team in possession can run with the ball
  • A turnover occurs when the team in possession drops the ball or gets tagged in possession
  • The ball can be passed forward or backwards
  • The defending team cannot mark the gates
