Research has found that participating in sports can have a healthy developmental impact on young children. These activities can promote co-operative play, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Play Rugby provides you with session plans, video clips on how to play fun games, additional Play Rugby certificates for all the class and the full range of Game Cards.

Play Rugby Girls contains additional information for schools and clubs who would like to set up a Girls Rugby programme.

  • Divide players into groups of 3 with a ball
  • Players throw the ball up in the air for each other to catch
  • Get the player who is catching the ball to call, adopt a wide stance and catch the ball with two hands

  • Divide players into two teams
  • Make a 20m x 20m grid
  • Make a 5m zone in the middle of the grid
  • Put each team either side of the zone
  • Each team throws the ball across the zone to the other team
  • The receiving team must catch the ball before it hits the ground
  • If the ball is not caught it is a score to the throwing team

Catching

Progress the game by having the receiving team turn away from the throwing team and they turn around on the call from the thrower
