Leinster recorded a 20-17 win over
Cardiff in the Heineken Cup at Lansdowne Road on Friday night with
Brian O'Meara kicking a penalty in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Leinster started strong with replacement out-half Matt Leek storming over in the right corner, after only 3 minutes of play. Brian O'Meara missed the conversion, but by all accounts a great start for Leinster.
Cardiff hit back on 11 minutes when Shane Horgan conceded a penalty, which Nicky Robinson converted from under the posts, before O'Meara responded with two penalties for the hosts, following losses of possession by Cardiff.
O'Meara kicked another 2 penalties for Leinster on the 25th and 30th minute respectively. Just before half time, Cardiff gave themselves hope when Robinson converted a Jim Brownrigg try under the posts, following a quick penalty from captain Martyn Williams. And on the stroke of the whistle, the Welsh side drew level thanks to another quick penalty, this time finished off by Quinnell. And to Leinster's shock, Cardiff were level after Robinson's second, simple conversion.
Both sides had chances in the second half but could not produce any scores. The only score of the second half came from Leinster's Brian O'Meara who kicked a penalty on the 80th minute to give the Lions a 20-17 win.
