Lewis, who refereed at the recent World Cup, was in charge of last season's Heineken Cup final at Twickenham between Leicester Tigers and London Wasps.
He is currently ahead of world class referees like Chris White (45 appearances), Joel Jutge (42) and his countryman Alain Rolland (39) in the list of the Heineken Cup's leading referees.
The 43-year-old also refereed the European Challenge Cup finals in both 2002 and 2005 and had his busiest season on the European circuit in 2006/07 when he took charge of eight matches in the Heineken Cup.
