The 26-year-old Wilkinson is one of a number of up-and-coming referees which the IRFU have helped nurture through the system.
He had been on the IRFU National Panel of Referees for six years and has officiated 'A' interprovincials, Under-20 Six Nations games and Under-18 internationals.
He has also been a touch judge for Rugby World Cup qualifiers and matches in the Nations Cup, Heineken Cup, European Challenge Cup and Magners League.
