Galwegians RFC's new floodlights were offically launched and switched on by the Mayor of Galway city, Councillor Terry O'Flaherty, at Crowley Park last Saturday.
Mayor Terry O'Flaherty was joined at the ground by
Billy Glynn, President of the IRFU and a life member of
Galwegians RFC.
To celebrate the occasion, a full day's activity was lined up, with a series of friendly matches in the afternoon, featuring the Galwegians Under-16s, the Women's team and a Golden Oldies selection.
The on-field action culminated in an evening friendly under the floodlights between the Galwegians senior team and their Ulster Bank League Division 2A counterparts UCC, with an impressive performance by the students seeing them claim a 12-5 victory.
The floodlights will be used for an important upcoming Ulster Bank League Division 2A fixture at Crowley Park on Friday November 9th.
On that particular night, local rivals Galwegians and Corinthians will lock horns for the first time at All-Ireland League level since the 1990s.
