Prop Cian Healy is expected to miss the start of the 2014 RBS 6 Nations after undergoing surgery on his injured ankle on Wednesday.
Speaking after the 20-10 defeat of Aironi, Munster team manager Shaun Payne said: "Denis twisted his knee after one of their props fell across his leg and we had to take him straight off.
"We won't know more until we get a scan done, but it does look relatively serious."
Hurley will undergo further medical examination either this evening or tomorrow when the full extent of the injury will be known.
The winger has been ruled out of action for this week and will not be involved in Saturday's game against the Newport Gwent Dragons.
