Twelve club coaches who are interested in developing themselves as fitness coaches attended the workshop.
The workshop consisted of Des Ryan presenting examples of appropriate content for all stages of the IRFU Long Term Player Development (LTPD) pathway.
The coaches were also given information on the IRFU Certified Conditioning Coach Course.
This was followed by a round-table discussion on what would be the best fitness structure for Edenderry RFC
Many of the coaches at the workshop will be attending the CCC course this summer. This will result in a qualified fitness coach attached to all the teams in the club from mini to the adult teams.
The implementation of such a structure will help to provide appropriate and responsible physical development at all stages of the LTPD pathway in Edenderry RFC.
This will help maximise the use of Edenderry's excellent new conditioning centre which was opened by Luke Fitzgerald in March of this year. The conditioning centre was developed in the space left from two unused squash courts.
Enda Doyle and Dave Fagan, the Leinster Rugby Fitness Coach, designed the conditioning centre which will be of great use to the Edenderry club and the surrounding area.
This is a great example to clubs and schools around the country on how to responsibly develop young and adult players physically. Many thanks to Edenderry RFC for their hospitably on the night.
