Womens' Rugby development officer in Connacht and Summer Camp coordinator, Wendy Hickey, was delighted the girls could make it down to show their support. "I am so thrilled for both Claire and Carol. To have this talent on your own doorstep just shows what can be developed in your own back yard! Proper funding for girls and women's rugby projects and support from clubs and schools is vital to the growth of the women's game."
Carol Staunton, who plays flanker/no. 8, and is working on her PhD in Sociology in NUIG, was first called into the Irish squad in 2008 European championships in Amsterdam and got her first cap playing France. With 3 caps for Connacht and 4 Irish caps under her belt, she is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, playing England on August 18th.
Claire Molloy, who studies medicine in Cardiff University, plays most of her rugby in Bristol as an open side flanker. She has 6 Connacht camps and 6 Irish caps, with her debut in a green jersey vs France in the 2009 Six Nations.
