Grand Slam winners Fiona Coghlan and Nora Stapelton have returned the Women's RBS 6 Nations trophy to Chief Executive John Feehan at the Six Nations offices in Dublin.
GUINNESS Draught Can, Official Beer to the Irish rugby squad, are preparing to support the Irish team in the Rugby World Cup in Australia in the same way the majority of Irish fans will be - sitting on the sofa watching the action on television!
The Guinness Draught Can Sofa Squads will be bringing the average Irish fans living room to life as a street theatre and will be touring around Ireland throughout the World Cup to stir the passion of the Irish fans before each of Ireland's games.
The Sofa Squads made their first appearance on Wednesday (October 8th) on Dublin's Grafton Street with Irish International Geordan Murphy. Murphy, who was unfortunately injured and will not be travelling to the World Cup, sat back and relaxed with the passers by on Grafton Street while watching some of Ireland's great World Cup performances of the past on television.
While naturally disappointed to missing out on the World Cup, Murphy realises that the Irish support, both home and away will be crucial and said, "I am sure that most living rooms in Ireland will be similar to what we have on Grafton Street today, with everybody in Ireland glued to the television shouting for Woody and the rest of the squad whilst enjoying a Guinness Draught Can. I think there is a real buzz building in Ireland as we get closer to the tournament and I am sure that by the time we get to the Argentina game, the whole atmosphere will be reaching fever pitch.
He continued, While the support in Australia in the stadiums will be vital, I don't think that we should underestimate the support of the fans at home. We would always feel that we have a duty to perform for the fans and hopefully we will be able to reward their support with success on the field."
The Guinness Draught Can Sofa Squads will be visiting Cork, Limerick and Belfast prior to each of Ireland's Group matches.
