The announcement - which followed Ulster's 30-3 Celtic League thumping of Glasgow on Friday night - will see the 25-year-old remain at Ravenhill until June 2008.

Qualified for Ireland by right of his father, Campbell has assumed the role of first-choice Ulster pivot over the past year, but has yet to earn a first senior international cap.

He should be earmarked for next Friday's 'A' international against France A at Donnybrook, with the senior summer tour to Japan also in the offing.

Of his new deal, Campbell insisted: "I'm delighted to have signed this deal with Ulster Rugby. It's been fantastic to have had a good run in the side this year, and I'm really looking forward to building on that next season."
