It was a third win on the trot for Buccaneers under new coach David Henshaw, and means that they are on course to avoid relegation to AIB League Division 2.
As things stand at the foot of Division 1B ahead of the final round of matches, Buccs are third-from-bottom on 23 points, a point ahead of Dungannon and Ballynahinch are bottom of the pile on 19 points.
Henshaw's charges are at home to second-placed Young Munster in their final game of the regulation season on April 10.
This afternoon, the Pirates made an impressive start as out-half Alex Hayman made a fifth minute break and drew the cover before sending supporting full-back JH Potgieter over for a try wide on the left.
Buccs scrum half Adam Kennedy and UCC full-back Sean Scanlon kicked two penalties apiece as the hosts took an 11-6 lead into the second half.
UCC had their number 8 Rob Barry sin-binned, just after the resumption, and Buccs took advantage of the extra man to put lock Padraig Burke over for a converted try.
'College hit back three minutes from the end, when good work by team captain Ivan Dineen set up a try for Scanlon which he failed to convert.
