Tuesday saw Eddie O'Sullivan include four uncapped players in his 32-man squad for next month's Autumn internationals. IrishRugby.ie profiles the four players, starting with the newest member of the squad, Stephen Ferris:
STEPHEN FERRIS (DUNGANNON/ULSTER)
Born: August 2, 1985
Height: 193m/6ft 4in
Weight: 110kg/17st 4lbs
Position: Flanker/Number 8
- Graduated from the Ulster Academy to win a development contract with the province at the start of the 2005/06 season. Won a full contract after impressing coach Mark McCall last season
- Ferris played for Ireland at the 2004 IRB Under-19 World Cup and the 2005 IRB Under-21 World Cup, and was part of the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland's rugby squad
- He scored five tries in five appearances at the 2005 U-21 World Cup in Argentina. Ferris has scored once in 20 Celtic League games, while he is yet to break his try-scoring duck in the Heineken Cup
- His performances during his debut season for Ulster saw him collect the 2005/06 Guinness/Ulster Rugby Young Player of the Year award. He was voted Youth Player of the Year in 2003 whilst playing for Portadown
- He missed out on playing at last summer's IRB Under-21 World Cup and possibly winning an Ireland 'A' cap during the Churchill Cup as he underwent a small operation to clear up some ankle damage
JAMIE HEASLIP (CLONTARF/LEINSTER)
Born: December 15, 1983
Height: 193cm/6ft 4in
Weight: 109kg/17st 2lbs
Position: Number 8
- Heaslip made his Leinster senior debut in the Celtic League in March of last year. He has tallied up four tries in 27 league games. His rugby hero is Simon Geoghegan
- Has scored one try (v Bourgoin last December) in eight Heineken Cup games. Heaslip's father Richard, an Army man, played for Shannon during his career
- Was nominated for the IRB Under-21 World Player of the Year award after starring at the 2004 U-21 World Cup in Scotland, where Ireland finished as runners-up to New Zealand
- He took his Ireland 'A' caps haul to five when helping the 'A' team finish third at last summer's Churchill Cup. He was also widely recognised as Ireland's best player at the tournament
- Heaslip, who started playing rugby at the age of eight with local club Naas, has a degree in Mechnical Engineering and switched AIB League clubs during the summer from Dublin University to Clontarf
LUKE FITZGERALD (BLACKROCK COLLEGE/LEINSTER)
Born: September 13, 1987
Height: 186cm/6ft 1in
Weight: 86kg/13st 7lbs
Position: Full-Back/Centre/Winger
- Made his Leinster senior debut only last month against Edinburgh, and has amassed a total of six Magners League caps. This time last year he was studying for his Leaving Cert at Blackrock College and in March, he helped the south Dublin school win the Leinster Schools Senior Cup for the 65th time
- Fitzgerald was capped by the Leinster and Ireland Schools teams and he captained the Leinster U-19 Schools side three times. He was part of the Ireland Schools XV that completed a clean sweep of wins in 2005 and he won the Irish Examiner Young Rugby Player of the Year award that same year
- Captained Blackrock College at the Sanix World Youth Tournament in Japan last year
- His early season form with Leinster saw him called up for last month's training camp with the Irish squad in Bray, along with his provincial team-mate Rob Kearney
- Turning 19 only last month, he was in the Leinster matchday 22 for last week's Heineken Cup win over Gloucester but remained on the bench. He is a son of former Ireland prop Des Fitzgerald
PADDY WALLACE (BALLYMENA/ULSTER)
Born: August 27, 1979
Height: 181cm/5ft 11in
Weight: 81kg/12st 10lbs
Position: Centre/Out-Half
- Far from being a newcomer, Wallace has been in Ireland senior squads since 2002. He travelled to Australia as a member of the Irish squad for the 2003 World Cup, but failed to gain Test recognition
- Ireland's strength in his chosen positions have seen him out of the running for a first cap, but some excellent displays for Ireland 'A' at last summer's Churchill Cup and for Ulster in this season's Magners League have seen him make the Autumn squad. He famously kicked 20 points against the All Blacks in an 'A' international at Ravenhill in 2001
- Educated at Campbell College and UCD, Wallace was a key member of the Irish team that won the Under-19 FIRA/World Youth Championship in France back in 1998. He played at out-half in '98 and in 2003, he helped Ballymena win the AIB League Division One title from full-back
- Has scored 43 points (2 tries, 6 conversions, 6 penalties and 1 drop goal) in 15 Heineken Cup appearances for Ulster
- He made his Ulster senior debut back in August 2001, and has since been capped 59 times by the province. Wallace's wife Tina is expecting their first child in January
