Champions Shannon got off to a winning start away to Ballymena but it is UL Bohemians who top the league on the opening day following a comprehensive 43 - 8 win over newly promoted Terenure. Joining them at the top with a five point bonus performance are Galwegians, Lansdowne, Blackrock College and Garryowen. Meanwhile last year's AIB Cup winners Cork Con beat play off finalists Clontarf by 20 - 10.

In AIB League Division 2 there is a three way tie at the top between UCC, Greystones and Suttonians. 20 - 10 was a popular scoreline in Divison 2 as Old Belvedere lost to Dublin University while Old Crescent beat Limerick neighbours Thomond by the same scoreline.
Old Wesley sit at the top of AIB League Divison 3 with the only bonus point win of the day - a 32 - 0 victory over Portadown. New boys Rainey Old Boys got off to a winning start on their first day in the AIB League as they had a narrow 17 - 15 win over Corinthians.
